Assignment # 9

In Assignment # 9 we had to write about what we think about the Americans coming to Canada.

Dear Diary, (day 1)

Oh my... this is not good! The Americans are coming to invade Canada, I'm SO scared! I just heard from most of my family that... the Americans are... coming here ... to Canada, to invade it! I'm SO scared, I think I am going to faint! That is a lot of information to take in; one day! ... I just don't know ... if I can handle this, I mean they aren't the most pleasant people and I don't want them hear! Last night when I found this information out I couldn't even sleep...! I was SO scared to even blink thinking that something might happened and that i might miss it, ... something important! I do wonder how long they will be and since there is NO way of them not coming I do hope that they aren't planning on staying long and that they will not terrorize or beautiful country. I know that not all of the people here are good guys or girls but I assume that they are much worse then any of us!

Dear Diary, (Day 2)

Oh my... they just made there decision final, the Americans are coming to invade Canada! I'm so scared! I don't like them being here at all! I can't sleep. My friends and family keep saying the same things over and over again... that they wont do anything that could put the Canadians in danger, but i don't know they seem to fidgety, I think they will attack! ( and if they do I will be ready! ) No I must start thinking positive, I don't know if that possible but i half to try to think that will end good and that we will all be fine. All i must do is remember that they are visitors here in our country and that they must treat us with respect! That is mostly what my friend Flonzy said! I sure do hope that she and my family are right, and that this will end very good!

Assignment # 8

In assignment #8 we had to write a interview with Louis Riel! We had to pretend that we on a talk show with Louis Riel (his ghost) and we had to ask him questions about his life and why he got executed. The talk show that we will be on is: Canadian History Talk Show! Now lets start the interview!

Me: Hello Louis Riel!

Louis: Hello there!

Me: So how are you?

Louis: I'm fine and you?

Me: I'm doing great! We are all really glad to have you here.

Louis: Me to.

Me: So we would all like to hear about your past.

Louis: Well, I was born in the Red River Settlement in 1844. I was sent to Montreal to take courses to become a lawyer, but sadly I never graduated and was sent back to Red River in 1868. When I was back in Red River (Manitoba), because I was very well educated man I became a leader of the Métis. Then in 1869 - 1870 I was in charge of a temporary government for Red River, me and the people wanted to make Red River a province and we wanted to have French language rights, but we had to talk to the Canadian Government first. Then I decided that a Canadian named Tomas Scott had to die, so I stuck with plan and killed Mr. Scott. Shortly after that I was offered a seat in the House of Commons but refused because I had a part in the death of a Canadian. After that I was put in an institution for some years and I had a belief that I had a religious mission to do. While I was teaching in Montana in 1884, I was asked to present their suffering to the Canadian Government, but they ignored there concerns, but by 1885 Métis was frustrated with there ignorance and the Government was declared. Then in 1885 I was the head disputed political and short - lived
Rebellion's. Then some time after that I was chosen to lead the Métis people. Then in May of 1885 just shortly after the fall of Batoche, I surrendered and was taken then to Regina for trial. At my trial I gave two long speech's trying to prove myself not guilty, but on August 1st 1885 a group of 6 English - speaking men proved me guilty and I was hung in Regina on November 16th 1885. Well that's my story!

Me: Oh my that was very interesting! Thank you for coming and telling all of us your very political story.

Louis: It was my pleasure; thank you very much for have me!

Me: It was our pleasure! Crowd let's give Mr. Riel a round of a clause!

Thank you for reading, I hoped you learnt more about Mr. Louis Riel!

If you would like to know more about Louis Riel you can check out some of these sites. (they helped me out)

Assignment # 7

In Assignment # 7 we had to read about some of the Canadians that have made a difference in our world or accomplished something fascinating. We had to answer some questions about what we learned and what we liked about learning about these people.

Questions and Answers:
a) Which category of Canadian Personalities interested you the most? Did you like the "we inspired", "we founded", "we fought", "we built" or "we governed" section the best? Why?
The category that I like the most was the " we inspired". I liked this one the most because, these people that were classified in this section, they help build the world that we live in now. I also liked this section more because they inspired people that want to be like them!

b) Which personality interested you the most? Why?

The Personality that interested me the most was Herman Smith (Jackrabbit) Johannsen. I'm most interested in Mr. Johannsen because he is a cross country skier and I liked cross country skiing. But that's not the only reason why I choose him, I choose Mr. Johannsen, I also choose him because he was good man and he inspired lots of young kids and children to cross country ski.

c) In your post, suggest three more influential Canadian personalities that could be added to this site. Why did you choose these people? Which categories would they fit into? (Link to information about each of them)

One person I know should be on this sight would be the legendary Terry Fox, he should be put under the category of inspiration. He should be under that category because he showed lots of people; young and old that they're are capable of anything even when there sick and that all they must do is be strong. Another person that I think should be in the inspired category would be Paul - Emile Borduas, Paul was a painter who started a new era in Canadian Art. I think that he should be under that category because he showed lots of people that they can do lots of stuff if they just put there mind to it. One other person who could be put on this sight would be, Lara St. John. Lara is a violinist with a great talent, she first started to play the violin when she was just 2 years old and played in an orchestra at the age of 5. I think that Mrs. St. John should be put in the category "we inspired" because she taught lots of young children that they can start there career at a very early age and that if you like something enough then you should try and achieve that goal early.

If you don't understand a question that has been answered: check out my teachers blog for reference

d.) Which History-Maker did you have the most in common with? Were you able to figure it out from the clues given? What do you share with that person? What are some things that are different between you and that person?

The person I was most like was Nellie McLung, and Laura Secord. Yes, I was able to figure out who they were with the clues. Some things that I share with these people are: We were both born in the Summer. Both of our first languages are English and we both want(ed) to visit that United States. One thing that we didn't have in common with each other would be that I like arts and they both don't.

e.) One hundred years from now, (in 2109!) imagine that students are learning about Canadian History Makers and they discover you. What will you be remembered for? How were you a Canadian History Maker?

I think that in the future when I grow up that I won't do anything that will be remembered for, when I grow up I would like to a lawyer and that I will do pottery on the side. But I don't think that I will do anything that will be remembered for, so I can't write what I think that I might be there for.

Assignment # 6

In Assignment # 6 we had to read up on a African Canadian. The person I choose to write about is Measha Brueggergosman. Measha is an Canadian soprano and opera singer, born on June, 28 1977 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. When she was a young girl she sang in her Church choir. When she was a young teen she took voice lessons to improve her voice. When she learned to train her voice she studied with a New Brunswick soprano singer Wendy Nielson. After the one year with Wendy she moved on and studied at the University of Toronto, where she go B. mus. Shortly after that at the age of 20 she played the lead role in the Opera Beatrice Chancy
(by: James Rolfe). The opera and Measha both got great reviews, for the great performance. Shortly after Mrs. Bruggengosman played the lead role in Opera Beatrice Chancy, she performed with Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Center. Measha has performed in many different opera's such as: the Cincinnati Opera, the Verdi Requiem with Sir Andrew Davis and the Toronto Symphony, the International Beethoven Festival etc...
She was awarded the Grand Prize at the Jeunesses Musicales International Compation
Montreal in Montreal in 2002.

Assignment # 5

In assignment # 5 we are learning about the Canadian Settlers and why they stayed here even in the COLD, COLD winters!

Obviously they managed to find food and and a good sturdy shelter to keep them going through the extremely cold winters in Canada. There food may not have been the best and the shelter may not have been the warmest thing, but they obviously liked it enough here to make them stay! The only way to keep them warm was to create fires.

When they first arrived they had to cut down trees with axes, to clear the land for there homes and barns for animals. ( witch took lots of work ) The Canadian Settlers had animals to provid them with food and liquid such as milk. They had barn animals like cows - for milk, sheep - for wool, chickens - for eggs, pigs for - for meat, horses - to pull and plow the sleighs.
